# Skills and AI instructions

> Teach the AI how you like things done, once, instead of repeating yourself.

## AI instructions for one app

Open **Dashboard → AI instructions** and write what the AI should always keep in mind for this app, such as who it's for, words to avoid, or parts it shouldn't change. The AI follows them on every message for the app. They can be up to 4,000 characters.

## Skills for all your apps

A skill is a set of instructions the AI reads only when a request calls for it, so it stays focused and your messages cost less. Add your own under **Settings → AI skills**:

- **Name:** A short name like `brand-voice`.
- **When to use it:** The AI reads this to decide whether the skill applies, so be specific. For example: "Writing any text customers read."
- **Instructions:** What to do, in up to 6,000 characters.

You'll see which skills the AI used in the chat log. Draftship also has built-in skills for landing pages, dashboards, stores, bookings, forms, accessibility and AI features.

Skills and instructions add to the AI's rules. They can't turn off its safety rules or your plan's limits.

## Build from AI tools

You can also build and change your apps from Claude, Cursor and other AI tools that support MCP. See [Build from AI tools](/docs/developers/ai/platform-mcp).
