# Test data

> Try your app with data that's separate from your live data.

Test data is a separate set of records and sign-ups for your app. You can add, change and delete anything in it without affecting your live data or your visitors.

## Manage test data

Open **Dashboard → Data** and switch from **Live** to **Test**. Everything you do on that page now applies to test data. From there you can:

- **Add or import records**, the same way as live data.
- **Copy live data:** replace the test data with a copy of your live records. Your live data doesn't change. Sign-ups aren't copied.
- **Clear test data:** remove all test records and test sign-ups.

## Use your app with test data

Choose **Open app with test data** to open your app in test mode on that browser. A bar at the bottom of the page shows you're in test mode, and **Exit** takes you back. You can also share the link with someone who's helping you test.

In test mode:

- The app only reads and writes test data.
- Emails aren't really sent.
- Automations and workflows don't start.
- Accounts are separate. If you have a live account, sign up again with a different email address to get a test account.
- The app runs your published version.

Anyone with the link can see and change your test data, but not your live data. If you copied live data, that copy can include your users' personal information, so only share the link with people you trust, and clear the data when you're done.

AI calls, like `InvokeLLM` and image generation, are real in test mode, and they use your plan's limits.
