# Build from AI tools (MCP)

> Create and change Draftship apps from Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Draftship has an MCP server for your account. Connect an AI tool, and you can say "Build me a booking app on Draftship" from that tool. To use one app's data instead, see [App MCP](/docs/developers/api/app-mcp).

## Connect

1. Open **Settings → AI tools (MCP)** and create a token. Copy it, because it's only shown once.
2. Add the server to your tool.

In Claude Code:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http draftship https://draftship.dev/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer dsu_your_token"
```

In Cursor, add this to `.cursor/mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "draftship": {
      "url": "https://draftship.dev/api/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer dsu_your_token" }
    }
  }
}
```

## Tools

| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| `list_apps` | Lists your apps |
| `create_app` | Starts building a new app from a description |
| `change_app` | Sends a message to an app's AI, in build, plan or discuss mode |
| `publish_app` | Makes an app's latest [draft](/docs/building/publishing) live |
| `get_app` | Shows an app's status and live address, any unpublished changes, and the latest result |
| `list_files` | Lists an app's source files (paid plans) |
| `read_file` | Reads a source file (paid plans) |

Building takes a few minutes, so your tool checks `get_app` until the app is ready.

## Limits and security

- `create_app` and `change_app` use your plan's limits, just like messages on the website. `publish_app` doesn't.
- `change_app` changes the draft, like the chat on the website. Visitors get the change after `publish_app`.
- A token can't change billing or settings, delete apps or see your secrets.
- Keep your token private. Anyone who has it can build on your account. To cut off a tool, revoke its token in **Settings → AI tools (MCP)**.
